TechnicalMarkus reviews Double Fine’s Middle Manager of Justice

A couple of weeks ago, I did a blog post about a new game that had turned up on Google Play. That game is made by Double Fine (one of my all-time favourite game developers alongside Volition, ‘cos Saints Row IV is unspeakably awesome), its name is Middle Manager of Justice, and as you may remember, I promised you a review of the game.

Now it’s time for that review, and since I have a Tegra-powered phone (the HTC One X, precursor to the utterly brilliant HTC One), I’m playing the version that has the extra content that players with Tegra devices get.

Of course, I’ve not seen any extra content, but there’s a very good reason for that…

Y’see, I’ve not progressed very far into the game, because the simple truth is this: I am, quite frankly, utterly useless at management-sim type games. For some reason, I just can’t seem to get my head round them, and around micromanaging the loads of things that need doing all at the same time, right this minute. My poor old brain simply can’t process that level of in-depth management (this is also why I’m allergic to To-Do lists).

However, I should point out that in spite of the mission timers being a tad tight, the problems I had with the game are not indicative of objective problems with the game. They’re indicative of my incompetence, not any kind of incompetence with Middle Manager of Justice.

And it’s a shame, because I get the distinct impression there’s a really deep, complex game lurking inside this little beastie. As well as that, I love the cartoon-y art style, and the writing is, as you’d expect from a Double Fine game, absolutely top notch. So therefore, what I’m basically saying is that if you are good at resource management type games (which I’m not), then there’s a lot to love in Middle Manage of Justice.

It’s available to download now (and it’s free to play, so unless you make in-app purchases, it won’t cost you a penny) from Google Play, for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z, and all them other Android phones.
